How does the media portray elderly people :
Elderly men are often portrayed as wise in the media. / sometimes a burden.

How does the media portray younger women?
View them as “the male gaze” and more attractive to look at, gains the attraction of audiences. (It is what the media wants to see)
How dos the media portray younger kids?
Media links them to stereotypes, with one of the main ones being the brain little angels - suffering from a long-term terminal illness or disability which a pluralist would argue it is something that the media wants to see - sympathy.
How does the media portray different social classes?
Over-representation of upper and middle compared to working-class.
What does Jones 2011 argue ?
He argues that we are all middle class now due to the fact that values and norms of the middle-class seen as the norm/ aspirational.
-Working-class or “underclass” are thus seen as abnormal or deviant as a result.
What does Reiner (2010) argue ?
Contemporary representations of people with wealth show them as examples of success within a meritocratic society.
-When people are shown as having enormous wealth, their achievements are celebrated and the audience is encouraged to identify with the culture of consumption and materialism.
What is the beauty myth?
Neo-Marxist, women need to he following trends of buying different makeups to look pretty, (Keeping up with the Kardashians, Kylies cosmetics), leads to consumption and control of ruling class. Spreads cultural hegemony.
What is symbolic annihilation?
Gerbner and Gross, Where certain CAGEDS groups have a distorted lead impression by society which leads to them not being in the public consciousness at all
How are teenagers represented in the media?
Teenagers are represented as trouble in the media which could often lead to moral panics .
Wayne et al - Most representations of teenagers were negative - mainly represented as a violent threat to society.
How are white Children often represented in the media?
As victims of horrendous crimes – some critics of the media have
suggested that white children who are victims of crime get more media attention than adults or children from ethnic minority backgrounds.
