Workshop Flashcards
What happens to compliance of arteries as you age?
Reduced
What happens to the velocity of primary and reflected waves as you age? What does this mean?
Increases - reflected waves get back at same time as systolic beat so cannot help push blood into the coronary arteries
What happens to diastolic BP as you age?
Decreases - not as easy for blood to flow into coronary arteries
What does elastin allow arteries to do?
Recoil so that when there is less blood present they can push it down the artery
When does blood flow through the coronary arteries?
Diastole
What is the role of the reflected wave?
Come back just after systolic beat to provide extra pressure to push blood into coronary arteries
