The way you group three numbers when adding or multiplying doesn’t change the answer.
5+2+17=17+2+5

Associative property
For any number a, the sum/product of a number and 0/1 is a.
5+0=5
17*1=17
Identity property
A number and its opposite are additive inverses of each other.
4+(-4)=0
Multiplicative:
8/7*7/8=1
Inverse property
The product of a number and 0 is 0.
50=0
04=0
Zero product property
Lets you multiply a sum by multiplying it by the two addends by the other number individually
7(3+4)=7(3)+7(4)
4(5+9)=4(5)+4(9)
Distributive property
Any quantity is equal to itself
5=5
4+7=4+7
Reflexive property
If one quantity equals a second quantity, then the second quantity equals the first quantity.
If 4=5, 5=4
If 24537=92638, 92638=24537
Symmetric property
If one quantity equals a second, and the second quantity equals a third quantity, then the first quantity equals the third.
If a=b and b=c, then a=c
Transitive property
The order in which you add or multiply numbers doesn’t change the sum or product
2+5=5+2
