4.15 and 4.16 The Haber process Flashcards
(2 cards)
1
Q
Haber Process
A
The Haber process is a reversible reaction between nitrogen and hydrogen to form ammonia.
2
Q
Formation of ammonia
A
Nitrogen is obtained from the air and hydrogen may be obtained from natural gas or other sources.
The purified gases are passed over an iron catalyst at a very high temperature (450C) and a very high pressure of 200 atmospheres
Hydrogen and nitrogen react to form ammonia and the reaction is reversible so it can break down to hydrogen and nitrogen.
