The Florida Statutes Chapter 381.004 defines a significant exposure as:

A source patient is a patient to which JFRD personnel have had a significant exposure.
In every case where an exposure has occurred, personnel should make every effort to transport the source patient to the hospital.
If the source patient is not transported to the hospital, the ___-___-___ will obtain the source patient’s name, address, phone number, and other pertinent information for potential follow-up screening procedures.

PROCEDURES FOLLOWING AN EXPOSURE

1. Scrub exposure site with soap and warm water ,as soon as possible ,and rinsed with a 1:100 solution of household bleach in water.

423.09 REPORTS
Exposure incidents require that the following reports be completed:
• JFRD Exposure Report – Filled out by the Health and Safety Officer. The ____ copy is placed in the employee’s confidential medical file. The ____ copy is given to the employee.
• JFRD Source Patient Blood/Body Fluid Exposure Tracking Form – Filled out by the Health and Safety Officer or the Rescue District/Battalion Chief. The charge nurse of the ER where the source patient was transported MUST sign that they received the source patient tracking form. The ___ copy is left with the charge nurse.
