Cells Flashcards
Nucleolus
Concentration of RNA found in Nucleus, as well as chromatin and proteins.
Produces rRNA, subunits of ribosomes.
Nuclear Envelope
Double membrane around nucleus, has nuclear pores
Controls what enters and leaves nucleus
Rough ER
Membranous channels studded with ribosomes, makes proteins for export.
Smooth ER
Membranous channels that make lipids, also detoxify poisons and toxins
Golgi Apparatus
Flattened membrane saccules that process, package, and distribute products of ER
Mitochondria
Double membrane organelle with inner folds called cristae. Where cellular respiration happens to make ATP, has inner fluid calle the matrix which contains DNA and ribosomes.
Ribosomes
Consists of two RNA subunits that make proteins for the cell.
Cytoplasm
Fluid that all cell organelles float in.
Cytoskeleton
Consists of actin and intermediate filaments, and microtubules that provide support and structure for cell, also movement.
Lysosomes
Membrane sacs containing enzymes that breakdown materials in the cell.
Vacuoles
Stores fluids and other materials
Vesicles
Membrane sac that stores and transports materials
Cell membrane
Phospholipid bilateral that controls what enters and leaves the cell.
Cell wall
Only in plants, provides shape an support, surrounds membrane
Chloroplast
Contains chlorophyll, site of photosynthesis.
