Montage -
quick cuts; disconnected in time or place combined to form a larger idea. frequently denoted passage of time, coming of age, or emotional transition
Assembly -
mosaic to form larger ideas; Hitchcock “The creative construction of a scene through the assembly of separate pieces of film.”
Mise-en-scene -
“putting in the scene”; a continuous camera shot (no editing)
Intercutting -
also called Cross-cutting; two scenes shot in sequence, cutting back and forth between them.
Split Screen -
two shots in a single frame showing simultaneous action
Dissolves -
blending of one shot to another to indicate time, scale, etc.
Smash Cuts -
jars the audience, sudden change in image or sound
