What are newspaper campaigns??
Newspapers like tabloids support campaigns and the newspapers print - usually have vunerable victims
What are individual campaigns??
Led by one person
- usually victim or their family or friends
Usually invited onto TV shows to raise awareness
What are pressure group campaigns??
People/public who care about a cause - Vs family
MPs + Lawyers
Holds government accountable and wants change in law
Examples for pressure group campaign?
Inquest - Lawyers and activists from a minority background
Gather own evidence to publish own reports
Stephen Lawrence murder
Snowdrop
PAS - Protection against stalking
What did Inquest do in stephen lawernce?
Aims - expose mistakes and biases
Driving force - Public outcry
Methods used - Two year inquiry - found police were institutionally racist
Impact on Policy - New awareness training and ensuring PACE powers are used legally
What did PAS do ??
Aims - establish stalking as a distinct criminal offense
Driving force - In 2017, approximately 1.1 million people were stalked in the UK. 94% of women murdered by men had been stalked prior to their deaths.
Methods used - Parliamentary Engagement - over 60 MPs
Impact on Policy - Made a criminal offense in Protection of Freedoms Act 2012
