Explain the parable of the mustard seed
30 Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
Where does the strength of Jesus’ parables come from?
The imagery he uses that everyone at the time could understand.
What is compared to what in this parable?
The tiny mustard seed is compared to the giant bush or tree it can become.
What was Jesus teaching his disciples about the kingdom of God?
It will start out small and insignificant. Then it will grow and become a substantial size.
What does the refernce to the birds nesting represent?
That the KIngdom of God is for all. Jews and Gentiles.
What is the Kingdom of God?
‘Asgard is not a place, it is a people’ (movie quote)
It means that the Kingdom of God is a spiritual idea, not a physical idea.
What does Jesus teach about the state of the kingdom of God?
That it is a present reality on Earth. But it will also come in the future even better.
What did Jesus teach about the kingdom of God’s characteristics?
It is for everyone and is a fast grower.
What is required to enter the kingdom of God?
A lack of wealth
you need to keep the commandments
having the innocence of a child
being a disciple
