What is HDI?
A
- Human Development Index and it is based on three factors;
- Health; measured by life expectancy at birth
- Education; measured by the mean years of schooling and the expected years of schooling
- Income; measured by real GNI per capital at purchasing power parity

What are the advantages of using HDI to measure development?
A
- It takes into account three key factors which are important to a country’s development
- It is relatively easy to calculate as governments collect the stats used in data.

What are the disadvantages of using HDI to measure development?
A
- Education doesn’t take into account the quality or success of the education
- Health takes no notice of the quality of life
- There isn’t consideration for the equality of income
- There are other factors such freedom from corruption which can measure development

What is MPI?
A
- The Multidimensional Poverty Index
- This measures the percentage of the population that’s multidimensional poor
- Takes into account: years of schooling and school attendance data, child mortality and nutrition data for health and availability of electricity, sanitation, safe drinking water in households and assets owned for standards of living.
- It focuses on poverty EV, however, it cannot be calculated for all countries as he data is not always available and it doesn’ttake into account the environment

What is the Genuine Progress Indicator
A
- It is calculated from 26 different indicators grouped into three main categories: economic, environment and social. It aims to look at economic sustainability
- Economic: Personal Consumption, inequality and the cost of unemployment
- Environmental: cost of pollution, CO2 emissions, depletion of non renewable resources
