Intelligence and Educational Attainment
Gardner
Argued that there are atleast seven distinct types of intelligence, ranging from the conventional linguistic, mathematical and spatial abilities to interpersonal intelligence.
Kaplan
Claimed that how well a person does on an IQ test depends ona variety of factors, not only on intelligence, for example;
* education
* reading habits
* experience with and/or attitudes towards taking tests
* cultural upbringing
* mental and physical health
Flynn
Argued that IQ tests actually measure two types of intelligence- those that involve linguistic and logical mathematical abilities.
Bourdieu
Argued that education reproduces the power and domination of ruling classes through a combination of habitus and cultural capital.
