Li Zhong Wan (Regulate the Middle Pill)

A

Warms the middle burner and strengthens the Spleen and Stomach

Deficiency-Cold of the SP/ST: Diarrhea with watery stool, nausea and vomiting, no particular thirst, loss of appetite, abdominal pain relieved by warmth and pressure, fatigue, abdominal distention

T: pale with white coat

P: deep, thin

Middle Jiao Deficiency-Cold syndrome: Also for chronic bleeding, chronic infantile convulsions, profuse salivation after chronic illness, and painful obstruction of the chest; Equally tonifies and dispels Cold

Wu Zhu Yu Tang (Evodia Decoction)

A

Warms and tonifies the Liver and Stomach, directs rebellious qi downward, and stops vomiting

ST (Yangming) Deficiency-Cold cauing rebellious Qi: Vomiting, immediately after eating indeterminate gnawing hunger, acid regurgitation with or without epigastric pain

T: tongue body which is not red with a white slippery coat

P: thin and either slow or wiry

LV (Jueyin) Deficient-Cold: Dry heaves or spitting of clear fluids with headache at the vertex

KD (Shaoyin) Deficient-Cold: Vomiting and diarrhea with cold hands and feet, and agitation so severe that the patient wants to die

Warms and tonifies the middle burner and moderates the spasmodic abdominal pain

SP Yang deficiency with Cold causing abdominal pain: Spasmodic pain that diminishes, with warmth and pressure, lusterless complexion

P: thin, wiry and moderate

NOTE: Also for low-grade fever, palpitations, irritability, dry mouth and throat

Da Jian Zhong Tang (Major Construct the Middle Decoction)

A

​Warms and tonifies middle burner deficiency, directs rebellious Qi downward, and alleviates pain

Middle Jiao Yang deficiency (root) + vigorous Yin-cold (manifestation): Excruciating epigastric and abdominal pain to the point tat the patient cannot tolerate being touched, strong sensation of cold in the epigastrium, severe vomiting to the point of being unable to eat, borborygmus

T: slippery, white coat

P: thin and tight or slow and wiry, or hidden in severe cases

NOTE: focused on dispelling Cold

Si Ni Tang (Frigid Extremities Decoction)

A

Rescues devastated yang, warms the middle burner, and stops diarrhea

KD Yang deficiency with Dold-Evil in the Shaoyin staeg (Yin Jue syndrome): Extremely cold extremities, aversion to cold, constant desire to sleep, sleeping with knees drawn up, vomiting, diarrhea with undigested food, abdominal pain and cold, lack of thirst

T: pale with white slippery coat

P: deep thin or minute

Yang Collapse: profuse cold sweating, cold limbs, sudden fainting

P: minute

False Heat + True Cold: Flushed face, irritability + desire for warm drinks, loose stool
