Treatment of AD

A

Cholingergic therapy–anticholinesterase

  • Donepezil
  • Rivastigmine
  • Galantamine

–Increase ACh in synapse and slow progression of memory loss

NMDA receptor antagonists–Memantine
–excitability of neuron can cause damage in AD–so slow down that excitability with glutamate NMDA receptor blocker and decrease the neuronal damage

1st approach is counseling

Antipsychotics –atypicals–risperidone and haloperidol

Antidepressants–sertraline and venlafaxine

Anxiolytics–busprione and lorazepam
