What is the difference between LVOs and LVPs?

A

Operations is what we do, Procedures is what the aerodrome does. We would use LVOs if LVPs were in force!

What is the difference between CAT 3 DUAL and CATIIIB?

And similarly with CAT IIIA and CAT II?

A

Cat 3 Dual is what we can do in the ac (reflected by the FMAs), while CATIIIB is the facility available at an aerodrome. We can only use CAT 3 DUAL if CATIIIB is available!

Similarly with CATIIIA we require CAT 3 capability, and with CAT II: CAT 2. (SEEN ON FMAs)

A

What does FAIL OPERATIONAL mean?

A

It means in the event of a failure, the ac can continue with an approach. If a failure were to happen, the AC would continue as FAIL PASSIVE

What does FAIL PASSIVE mean?

A

It means that if there is a failure, there will be no significant out of trim condition or deviation, however the landing will not be completed automatically. In this case the pilot must resume control.

What is an ALERT HEIGHT?

A

It is the radio height BEFORE which we can go around if suffering from a failure. If a failure occurred below the alert height it would be ignored and the approach continued.

What is easyJet’s LVO policy?

A

That ALL CatII/III and LTS* CAT I approaches are planned to use autoland and LVPs must be in force.
FOs are not allowed to carry out practise autolands as PF.

Minimum departure RVRs are given in LIDO AOI (aerodrome operational information)

*Lower than standard. Its a CAT 1 approach permitted with lower than std minima provided you have autoland available.

When will ATC initiate LVPs?

A

At the latest by:

CEILING less than or equal to 200ft

OR

RVR less than or equal to 600m.
