Enzymes Flashcards
What effects the effectiveness of an enzyme.
Temperature
The pH level
What is the optimum temperature for enzymes to work in the human body?
37.5°C
Does an enzyme work if denatured, and if so why not?
The enzyme won’t work is it is denatured, as the active sites shape is changed and thus the pacific substrate won’t fit in it.
What is the active site?
The active site is the highly specific area in the enzyme the breaks the substrate down into the product, which can then be used by the body/ organism.
What is an enzyme.
An enzyme is a biological catalyst that speeds up the rate of a reaction.
What does starch break down into?
Glucose
Where are enzymes made?
Inside cells
Glands
What are proteins Brocken brown into?
Amino acids with the help of pepsin.
Where is carbohydrates used in industry?
