4.6 V/UHF Flashcards
(39 cards)
What modes of operation are available for the ARC-210 radios?
VHF UHF clear/secure HAVEQUICK SINCGARS Link 11 CASS/DICASS VMF (with carry-aboard laptops)
What does SINCGARS stand for?
Single-channel ground and airborne radio systems
___________ and _____________ use frequency-hopping, or rapidly changing frequency, as a means to interfere with jamming and interception for electronic intelligence.
HAVEQUICK and SINCGARS use frequency-hopping, or rapidly changing frequency, as a means to interfere with jamming and interception for electronic intelligence.
Frequency-hopping also prevents…
This also prevents direction finding systems from following the changing frequency long enough to obtain an accurate position.
Is frequency-hopping encryption?
No
While frequency hopping is not encryption, it increases security
How is the sequence and timing for frequency-hopping determined?
The sequence and order of frequency hops is determined by a pseudo-random number generator in each radio, with the hopping being time synchronized using the time distribution system (TDS) time reference.
In addition to frequency hopping, SINCGARS requires
Encryption
In what rack are the VUHF radios located?
E810
In what rack are the CSUs located?
E810
In what rack are the VUHF AIUs located?
E810
What model are the ARC-210 radios?
Rockwell Collins RT-1939(C)
What are RT4, and RT5 ARC-210 radios in E810 used for?
UHF SATCOM
What is another name for VHF anti-jam mode on the ARC-210?
SINCGARS
What does CSEL stand for?
Combat survivor evader locator
Note regarding ARC-210 receive-only mode of operation
The RT provides a receive-only mode of operation from 108.000 through 117.975 MHz (AM).
In the event of a power failure resulting in operation on battery power only, ICS relays deactivate and the flight deck controls
V/UHF-1 via the flight deck interface unit (FDIU) with the UHF radio access button on theflight deck audio control panel (FDACP).
Do the keys zeroize in the ARC-210 radios if power is lost?
No
The radios have internal batteries to keep the key variables saved when power is removed.
When are the ARC-210 radios unintentionally zerioized?
When the radios are removed, tampered with, or when the battery voltage drops below a threshold, the key variables are zeroized.
What are the embedded crypto devices on the ARC-210?
KGV-11
KY-58
KYV-5
KG-84C
What does AIU stand for?
Antenna Interface Unit
What is the function of the VUHF AIUs?
Interfaces with the antenna
Filtering and amplification for VUHF comms in densely populated VUHF
The AIUs provide tunable bandpass filtering, power amplification (transmit mode), and low noise amplification (receive mode) for V/UHF LOS signals. The AIU allows V/UHF LOS communications in a densely populated V/UHF antenna configuration
What is the function of the ARC210 RF switches?
Normal ops, RF switch routes signal through AIU1
Emergency, the RF switch bypasses the AIU when power is lost
Battery powers VUHF1 only when power is lost
The RF switches automatically switch the RF path during emergency power loss. During normal operation, the RF switches route the RF path through V/UHF AIU1. When the aircraft experiences a 115 Vac power loss, the V/UHF AIU-1 is bypassed. This allows the single battery-powered V/UHF-1 radio to operate without the high power requirements of the AIU (Figure 4-94). V/UHF-1 is the only V/UHF radio available during loss of primary power.
_________ is the only V/UHF radio available during loss of primary power.
VUHF1
What is the function of the VUHF control relay?
Routes battery power to the RF switches when power is lost
