Q

how do we activate the probe?

A

after vertical insertion, tip is gently “walked” along the base of the sulcus; lift and move, DO NOT DRAG!!!
strokes are close together-1mm steps
strokes remain within sulcus, unless sulcus is very shallow, then it may be impossible (especially facial of the mand. anteriors)

Q

how do we adapt the probe interproximal?

A

walk probe to contact, then angle into col area as one more step is taken.
*be sure to “step” probe to the attachment level and keep the side of the tip angled toward the tooth to keep touching the tooth.
