Applied Research

A

The development of theory, principles and findings that are relatively specific with respect to particular population, tasks product, system and/ or environments. Operating navigational system when driving a car.

Q

Experimental Research Methods

A

Consists of deliberately producing a change in one or more casual or independent variables and measuring the effect of that change on one or more dependent variable.

Key to good experimental is control
Only the independent variable should be changed and all other variable should be held constant or controlled.

As control is loosened out of necessity, research progressively depends more on descriptive methods describing relations that exist, even though they could bot be actually manipulated or controlled by researcher. In human factors, as in any kind of research, collecting data, whether experimental or descriptive, is only half of the process. The other half is inferring the meaning or message conveyed by the data thus generalizing or predicting from the particular data sample to the broader population.

Human Factors Research

A

In human factors, as in any kind of research, collecting data, whether experimental or descriptive, is only half of the process.
 The other half is inferring the meaning or message convoyed by the data and this usually generalizing or predicting from the particular data sample to the broader population.

Q

Ethical Issues

A

Protection of participants from mental or physical harm. Right of Privacy to the participant, with respect to their behavior, assurance that participation in research is completely voluntarily, right of participant to be informed beforehand about the nature of the experimental procedures.
