Cardiac System Flashcards

1
Q

Arteries

A

, arterioles, capillaries; considered resistance vessels and affect afterload. Vasodilation causes a decrease in afterload, whereas vasoconstriction causes an increase in afterload.

Q

Cardiac conduction

A

The SA node fires a stimulus across the walls of both the right and left atria causing them to contract; the stimulus arrives at the AV node; the stimulus is directed to follow the AV bundle (Bundle of His); the stimulus now travels through the apex of the heart through the bundle branches; the Purkinje fibers distribute the stimulus across both ventricles causing ventricular contraction.
