Female Repro Flashcards

1
Q

Theca Cells

A

androgen production

LH –> androtensidion >> testosterone

  • The theca cell layers (externa and interna are vascularized
  • NO FSH receptors

Q

LH

A

Luteinizing hormone

  • stimulates theca cell and GC steroidogenesis
  • causes the changes in GC function and cytoarchitecture to enable ovulation
  • stimulates luteinization: the terminal differentiation of GC and theca cells

POST OVULATION: LH stimulates the luteinized GC and teca cells within the corpus luteum to produce and secrete appreciable amounts of progesterone and estrogens

Q

FSH

A

enables GC to convert aromatizable androgens (androstenedione and testosterone) into estrogens

  • stimulates steriodogenesis in GC
  • regulates GC mitosis during follicular growth (folliculogenesis)
  • cAMP/PKA dependent
