Q

Laws and principles… They have a worth… and if I cannot believe it now, It is because I am insane - quite insane: with fire running through my vein

A

When Jane feels misguided or as if she is doing wrong morally, she reports back to God and judges herself based on religion and its laws

Rochester is asking her to stay with him even though he has a wife, she refuses to sacrifice her integrity and morally and puts her love of herself over her desire and passion for Mr Rochester

There is a parallel in this quote between Bertha and Jane - Jane and Bertha both have excessive passion and desire, however Jane learns how to control her lust and surprise her passion, unlike Bertha who cannot suppress her feelings and is subsequently incarcerated in Rochester’s prison

Jane is asserting her strong sense of moral integrity over her immediate feelings
