What is a Risk Assessment?
Decision making, choosing between one course of action as opposed to another
What must be considered when making a risk assessment?
Feasible options, positive and negative consequences, desirability of consequences, likelihood of consequences, weighing factors for best option
What are the priorities of incident response?
- Public Safety 2. Safety of Officers 3. Protection of Property 4. Preservation of evidence 5. Restoration of Services
A lot of useful information is derived from the questions, but what is the primary purpose of these questions?
To allow the bomb technician to make an educated and intelligent decision on the threat level
If you decide to X-ray the device, how far away should you be from the IED during the X-ray procedure?
Find suitable cover & distance to provide protection from frag and blast
What is the purpose of the logic tree?
- Refine the General RSP to the best RSP 2. Insure all steps/aspects of the RSP are considered 3. Evaluate the various options at each crossroads in the RSP 4. Work forward and backward to ensure equip and support are prepared

- Timed 2. Command 3. Victim Operated

Why conduct a risk assessment?
In order to make a wise decision which could encompass life or death, a technician must assess the probability and the nature of each consequence for each course of action
What distinguishes an acceptable risk problem from other decision problems?
At least one alternative option includes a threat to life or health among its consequences
