What are the three muscles that are apart of the superficial neck (both anterior and posterior)?
1) Platysma
2) Sternocleidomastoid (SCM)
3) Trapezius
What is the origin of the word “cleis” in the SCM muscle?
it is Greek for Clavicle

The Sternocleidomastoid (SCM)

What is Congenital Torticollis?
a fibrous tissue build up within the SCM that happen either before or just after birth
What is Muscular Torticollis?
an injury that occurs during the birth process
What is Spasmatic Torticollis?
- The most common kind of torticollis.
- occurs in adults
- due to abmornal tonicity within the SCM muscle
- often caused by a whiplash type injury, environmental causes and other head injuries
- Often responds well to chiropractic care
T/F: The insertion of the Trapezius muslce in along the mid line of the body?
False. The origins of the trapezius are along the mid line and the insertions are on the lateral aspect of the body
