Occlusal rest

A

rounded triangle outline - 1/3rd facial lingual width, 1/2 width between cusps, 1.5mm deep for metal, floor inclines apically toward tooth center. Goes up to1mm. Use number 8 bur.

Cingulum rest

A

inverted V or U. MD width 2.5 to 3mm. Labiolingual width 2mm. Incisal apical depth 1.5mm. Loweer anteriors frequently don’t have enough enamel. Use 37 bur. Bicuspids preferred in mandible.

Incisal rest

A

rounded notch at an incisal angle. 2.5mm wide, 1.5mm deep. Usually used as indirect retainer, less favorable mechanical leverage than cingulum rest.
