5 components of fitness Flashcards
(20 cards)
fitness in a dancer is?
the physical skills a dancer needs to perform at their peak.
how does strength help a dancer?
helps maintain and ensure movement are controlled, looks effortless, and can help maintain correct alignment
name the 5 components of fitness
- strength
- flexibility
- coordination
- muscular endurance
- cardiovascular endurance
what is strength?
the ability to exert force in a singular contraction. you need strength to carry, push or pull weight while moving through a range of motion.
an example of strength
upper body strength, feet, core strength ect
what is muscular endurance?
the ability to exert force over a period of time.
difference between strength and muscular endurance
strength is being able to do a handstand and muscular endurance is being able to hold the handstand
what is cardiovascular endurance?
the capacity of the body to be involved in continuous physical activity.
what does it mean if a dancer has a high degree of endurance?
they can maintain efficiency and accuracy in movements for an entire class. these dancers require less recovery time between active periods of dance.
why is breathing important when dancing?
oxygen supplies the muscles with energy for movement and also eliminates waste like lactic acid.
example of static movement?
balanced and splits
what is flexibility?
the range of movement around a joint. dancers require the joints to move beyond there normal range of motion to adapt to dynamic (moving) and static (still)
example of dynamic movement?
leaps and kicks
how long should stretches be held for?
30 seconds - 2 minutes
why shouldn’t you hold static stretches prior to physical activity
because it will reduce your power output - makes the muscles relax.
when is the best time to stretch?
stretching after physical activity is the best way to improve flexibility
what muscles do you stretch corresponding?
hamstring + quadriceps, biceps + triceps, pecs + traps, this is to ensure both sides are even.
what is coordination
the body’s ability to perform motor tasks smoothly and accurately.
what is a good way to improve coordination
progressions.
what is the goal coordination in a dancer
to execute choreography with technical precision while still coordinating facial expressions and other performance skills.
