Shahadah

A

To believe that there is only one god and that Muhammad is his/her messenger. In order to officially become Muslim you have to say the Shahadah in front of witnesses.

Salah

A

To pray five times a day. Muslims can pray whenever they want, but there are five set prayers, so Allah (God) is remembered through the day.

Sawm

A

To fast during the month of Ramadan, during this month Muslims also refrain from sexual relations. Sawm is meant to build up Muslims’ self-discipline. This is also a sacrifice to Allah.

Zakah

A

To give money to charity/ help the less fortunate. This stops Muslims from being greedy. Also, like Sawm it is a sacrifice to Allah.

Hajj

A

To go on a pilgrimage to the city of Mecca once in their lifetime (if possible). This shows that they are thinking about Allah.
