    Dialogue

Sandra: Look at this interesting article about some of the habits in Spain that lots of people find surprising.

Carlos: ¿Ah sí? ¿Qué dice?

Carlos: Oh yeah? What does it say?

Sandra: Well, it starts by talking about the “siesta” and it explains how Spanish people normally lie down for a bit after lunch.

Carlos: But that’s understandable, isn’t it? Who doesn’t like sleeping for a bit in the afternoon?

Sandra: Well, unfortunately not all of us can do it. I can’t because of work but I’d really like to. Another thing that surprises lots of people is the “sobremesa”. I mean, it strikes them that we spend so much time at the table chatting and having coffee.

Carlos: Does it say anything about the TV schedule? Because I think it’s a shame that so many programmes start so late. During the week I go to bed early and I think it’s incredible to not be able to watch the films they show at night.

Sandra: That’s true. It also says that Spanish people are a bit boisterous when they talk, that they speak really loudly and it seems like they’re arguing.

Carlos: Yes, especially when you’re with a group of friends with everyone talking at the same time, it’s crazy sometimes.
