What are biofuels?
Fuels made from plant or animal products that are renewable
How is biodiesel made?
From vegetable oils extracted from plants
What is an advantage of using biodiesel?
It makes very little contribution to carbon dioxide levels because the carbon dioxide given off when it burns replaces the carbon dioxide taken from the atmosphere by plants as they grew
What is a disadvantage of biodiesel?
Plants grown for biodiesel take up large areas of farmland
What is ethanol?
A biofuel made from sugar cane
What is good about ethanol?
It is a liquid so it can be stored and distributed like other liquid fuels. It can also be mixed with petrol
What is good about using hydrogen as a fuel?
It only produces water when it is burnt
What is bad about using hydrogen as a fuel?
It is a gas so it takes up a large volume so it is difficult to store
How can hydrogen be produced?
From water by electrolysis
