What is status epilepticus?

A

Seizure lasting >30 minutes or 2 seizures without return to baseline between them
treat seizure after 5 minutes

what are early identification of status eptilipticus?

A

Simple partial and generalized tonic-clonic generally easier to identify

Complex partial, absence and subclinical status epilepticus more difficult

Consider in patients with decreased level of consciousness
Cues may include
Gaze preference
Blinking
Automatisms
Posturing
No clear cause for decreased LOC

A

give oxygen, asses airway and apply pulse ox
