A
Lossy:
takes out a certain amount of data to compress. Can’t get full restoration
Lossless:
No part of the data taken out. Can get full restoration

MP3: taking out bits of the sound the human ear cannot hear
Video: only storing the differences between frames
Graphic: taking out parts of the image the human eye cannot see or grouping similar shades into the same colour
