A

Goddard and Intelligence.

A

Strong advocate of testing immigrants; used Binet test in other contexts (unintended use). Unrealiable; tested immigrants at ‘gateway’, spoke little to no English, never used a pencil. Coined the term moron (50-70 IQ). Intelligence governed by a single gene, prevent breeding of morons.

Stanford-Binet test. National testing to reduce crime (removal of low IQ members to custodial care).

Yerkes and Intelligence.

A

Three tests for the US Military; alpha (written), beta (illiterate), individual examination (Binet). Intelligence innate and can aid assignment of military specialisation. Supported notion of genetic differences and immigration restriction act passed (1924).

Gould vs. Morton.

A

Morton concluded racial difference in cranial capacity however when re-analysed by Gould no difference found (mustard seeds, experimental bias).

Immigration and Psychology.

A

Influx of immigrants (1850’s-1920’s). Eugenics (Galton). Galton also pioneered twin studies and correlation all understanding. Pavlov and Freud attractive movements (emphasis on social experience, consequences of capitalist economy).
