Mass production

A

Mass production involves automation of input processes to produce the required output in large amounts. For example, car manufacturer.

Advantages:

  • low unit costs
  • consistent quality standards
  • constant rate of output

Disadvantages:

  • initial high set up costs
  • unmotivated employees through repetitive low skilled work
  • no allowance for customisation

Project or Job process

A

Involves production of one item as single entity from start to finish. Labour and equipment comes to product. For example, a construction of a building.

Advantages:
- workers take pride in craftsmanship

Disadvantages:
- expensive and time consuming
