Q

What is a conjunction search?

A

A conjunction search is the result of visual interference by equally attention getting features, as a result it requires that each item be serially separated and scanned. This occurs when too many combinations of pre-attentive features are used.
This can be addressed by colour and shape.

Q

What is the Law of Proximity?

A

The law of proximity is the rule that objects near each other tend to be perceived as the same unit, distant objects are perceived as different objects and use proximity to cluster sets.

Q

What is the Law of Continuity?

A

The law of continuity is the rule that objects overlapping or intersecting are perceived as one object and objects arranged on a smooth curve are also perceived as a unit.

Q

What is the Law of Closure?

A

The law of closure is the rule that figures with gaps tend to be perceived as closed complete figures and that humans recognise familiar patterns and fill in the gaps.

Q

What is the Law of Similarity?

A

The law of similarity is the rule that objects similar to each other tend to be perceived as a unit, different stimuli are a different object and it allows clustering into sets.

Q

What is a Visual Hierarchy?

A

A visual hierarchy makes the most important thing the centre of attention, ranking other things in declining order of importance and users should be able to instantly ‘see’ relationships between page elements. It should show:

  1. The relative importance of page elements
  2. The relationships among them

Q

How is containment on a page implemented?

A

A
  1. Back Links
  2. Ads
  3. Internal Links
  4. External Links
  5. Cart
  6. Help
