Positive Psychology
Focuses not on treating disorders or mitigating psychological problems, but on helping people to thrive. (Tx Rx)
Well-Being
the combination of feeling good and functioning well.
Resilience
The ability to adapt and recover from challenging life experiences— positive thinking, self-compassion, growth mindset, optimism, and self-efficacy.
Subjective Well-Being
Cognitive evaluations of one’s life— positive and negative affect, cognitive appraisal of life satisfaction.
Feel-Good, Do-Good Phenomenon
the tendency for people in a positive mood to be more likely to engage in helpful or altruistic behaviors, like donating to charity or helping a stranger.
Adaptation-Level Phenomenon
the tendency to judge stimuli or situations based on our past experiences, meaning we quickly adapt to new situations and they become the norm.
Relative Deprivation
the feeling of being worse off or deprived compared to others, based on a comparison to a specific standard or group, rather than an absolute standard of living.
Gratitude
a positive emotional response, a sense of thankfulness and appreciation, stemming from recognizing a positive outcome or a fortunate happenstance, often attributed to an external source.
Signature Strengths
Strengths that you possess that are “effortless”, energizing, and essential to who you are.
Virtues
A trait of excellence, including traits that may be moral, social, or intellectual
Character Strengths
The positive parts of our personality that make us feel authentic and engaged.

Temperance
the virtue of moderation and self-control. It encompasses the ability to regulate one’s emotions, desires, and behaviors in a balanced and appropriate manner.
Transcendence
a state where individuals look beyond themselves, embracing a larger perspective, and connecting with something greater than their individual self, often including others, humanity, or the universe.
Broaden-and-Build Theory
experiencing positive emotions leads to the expansion of an individual’s thought-action repertoire and the building of personal resources, ultimately promoting well-being and resilience.
Wisdom
a cognitive and emotional capacity that enables individuals to make sound judgments, navigate life’s complexities, and live meaningful lives.
Courage
the ability to face and overcome fear, adversity, or danger.
Humanity
The complex set of qualities, traits, and behaviors that define what it means to be human.
Justice
explores how individuals perceive and react to fairness, equality, and reciprocity in social interactions, examining factors like fairness in decision-making, resource allocation, and interpersonal treatment.
