Q

Dependent Variable

A

A variable for which the values may depend on the independent on , or differ by, the independent variable. When the dependent variable is statistical related to the independent variable, the value of the dependent variable “ depends” on, or is predicted by the value of the independent variable.

Q

Independent Variable

A

A variable that may predict or produce variation in the dependent variable. The independent variable may be nominal or continuous and is sometimes manipulated by the the researcher. ( e.g. when the researcher assigns participants to an experimental of control group, thereby creating a two - category independent variable)

Q

Matched, paired, dependent samples

A

When each score from one sample is matched from one score from a second sample. Or in the case of single sampled measured at 2 times, when each score at Time 1 is matched with the score for the same individual at Time 2.
