- Gram neg diplococcus
- Conjunctivitis, pneumonia, sepsis, meningitis, septic arthritis
- Also asx NP carriage

Mortality 10% (higher if septic)

A

MCV-C (Menjugate) vaccine given at what age?
Booster when, and which vaccine?
A
12 months (immunizing before that doesn't give protection beyond 1 yr)
Booster MCV-4 or MCV-C at 12 years

Who is at increased risk for invasive meningococcal infection?
How do vaccines differ for high risk people?
A
- Asplenia (anatomical/functional)
- Antibody deficiency disorders
- Complement, properdin, factor D deficiency
- Travel to high risk areas
- Lab people with exposure
- Military
If high risk:
- MCV-C at 2 and 4 months
- MCV-4 if older than 2 years
