A

A

A

Allows an electronic device to exchange data wirelessly over a network, including high-speed internet connections. Devices connect through a device called WAP. Wi-Fi is used where wired cannot be run, and where users require mobile connectivity.

How is data transferred over the Internet?

A
  • Data is broken up into packets
  • Header added to each packet explains origin and destination of packet, and where it fits in with the rest of the packets.
  • Packet sent from comp to comp and sent to its destination. All packets might not take the same route.
  • Packets are examined at destination and if any faults, request for resend is sent. Continues till all packets are received.

A

Need access point with active internet connection.

A

Acts as both an Internet connectivity device as well as an access point for wi-go connectivity.

How to view list of wireless networks available in Windows XP?

A

Right click on Wireless Icon in system tray > View Available networks

List of wi-fi networks appears, double click on the name. Enter password if required by a secure network.
