Steps of Injections

A
  1. clean/irrigate wound
  2. mark area for the injection (1cm superior and 1cm lateral to the superio-lateral aspect of patella)
  3. prep skin with betadine or alcohol
  4. analagesia (field/digital blocks) & into SubQ tissue (not into capsule b/c it will compromise fluid sampling)
  5. swab top of vials w/ alcohol before drawing into syringe
  6. change needles after drawing up solution in the syringe
  7. advance needle until you feel pop (capsule) (45degree angle)
  8. aspirate fluid before injecting
  9. grasp needle with hemostat while you twist off syringe and swap syringes
  10. inject steroid
  11. done.
