Tissue - Repair Flashcards
Tissue repair requires
Cell migration initiate by growth factors (wound hormones) released by injured cells
Repair depends on
- type of tissue damaged
* severity if injury
Regeneration
Replacement of destroyed tissues w/ same kind of tissue
Fibrosis
Scarring
Proliferation of fiberous connective scar tissue
Steps of tissue repair
1) inflammatory
2) organization
3) regeneration/fibrosis
Inflammatory stage (#1)
Chemicals cause capillaries to dislate & become permeable
White blood cells and protein leak into area
Clot forms
Scan forms when area is exposed to air
Organization that restores blood supply (#2)
Temporary blood clot replaced by granulation tissue
Regeneration/fibrosis effects permanent repair (#3)
Surface epithelium begins to regenerate & grow across granulation tissue beneath scab
Epithelium thickens to match surrounding tissue
Granulation tissue
Delicate and pink
Composed of capillaries, macrophages, fibroblasts
Designed to become scar tissue
Factors affecting repair process
Type of tissue injured Type of injury & immediate care given Nutrition Adequacy of blood supply State of health Age
