Q

Purpose of SCT

A
  1. Replacement therapy
  2. Ablative therapy: HSCs from a person are immobilized into the blood, filtered and collected. The person’s blood cell count is drastically reduced by chemo and the extracted HSCs are then planted.
  3. Immunotherapy: it leads to graft vs tumor effect so the donated immune system or immune cells are more active towards destroying the tumor than other parts of the body
  4. Gene therapy
