Condensation - Lateral/horizontal Strokes

A

against walls of the preparation where the side of the condenser will do the work.

Locations:
This type of stroke is solely used in Class I with extension cases (buccal and lingual boxes)
Also proximal box
In some class I cases where there is a narrow outline in the groove areas

 Hollenback blade type instrument with 2 working edges and a pointed tip on each side

 Reestablish central groove area and pit
 Does not create deep anatomy if used at the right angle to the surface  Placed parallel to the long axis and not leaning against the cusp slopes

A

Discoid end is a disc shape
 Right at the cavosurface supported by the
tooth
 Lay 1/2 on tooth structure and half on amalgam to remove excess

Two strokes - pull stroke 1

A

With gentle light pressure move the edge of the carver parallel to the margin
 Partially resting on tooth structure (as a guide) and partially resting on amalgam
 Tip of the carver should not pass the central groove area

 Do Not fulcrum carver on the cavosurface margin…submarginal or
undercontouring.

Open margin

A

break between tooth and the amalgam restoration. It not continous
trap food particles and allows passage for microorganisms

Tip of the explorer catches when moved in both directions across the margin

A

the seal between amalgam and the enamel is not broken. If ≤ 0.2mm of tooth structure is left then enameloplasty
>0.2 mm then replace your restoration

Explorer catches in one direction.
