Q

Cannula Shear

A
  • The person actually cannulating the patient must observe the correct technique
  • In the event of suspected cannula shear and plastic embolism treat the patients signs & symptoms

–Oxygen therapy

–Patient positioning – left side

–Resuscitate if necessary

–Call for back-up

Q

Tissuing

A

•If the cannula is not sited correctly, the person performing the cannulating should remove it and deal with it

•In the event that they do not the cannula should be removed and the site treated as any other wound

•Aseptic technique should be used to stop any bleeding and apply the correct size of dressing.
