Why is desertification deemed ‘bad’ ?
Desertification is bad because it threatens poor and vulnerable people. It stops people people who are dependant on the land to be able to support themselves
What does people being unable to support themselves result in?
It results in high debts and owing more money in order to pay off previous debts , creating an on-going spiral of decline.
What culture in Alaska does desserts fiction threaten ?
It threatens the culture of nomadic farmers as they are unable to find suitable locations where the soil is fertile enough to grow their crops.

The process of soil losing its ability to be fertile.

Oil spills threaten the health of the Caribou deer which is the Nunavat’s main source of meat/food
As well as the welfare of nearby wildlife, what else is a concern regarding oil slicks?
As oil is extremely flammable , if it were to catch fire , a wildfire would spread , damaging habitats and of course wildlife as a result.
How do oil refineries affect the Caribou ?
Thel Caribou is an animal which travels during the year from area to area however their paths are interrupted by oil refineries- this makes them vulnerable to the danger caused from oil spills
How may an oil spill be cleared up ?
Detergents can be used to break up an oil spill however this can further damage wildlife.
How do tourists threaten the Nunavat ?
Tourism causes cultural dilution and a loss of the ‘natural language’ as individuals attempt to learn the ‘tourist language’ in order to attain jobs and earn money to support themselves.

An environment that is susceptible to change.

The act of moving all livestock and property in accordance to the climate.
