Hormone Functions Flashcards
What does TRH do?
Stimulates secretion of TSH and Prolactin
What does CRH do?
Stimulates secretion of ACTH
What does GnRH do?
Stimulates secretion of LH and FSH
What does Somatostatin do?
Inhibits secretion of GH
What does Dopamine do?
Inhibits secretion of Prolactin
What does GHRH do?
Stimulates secretion of GH
What does TSH do?
Stimulates synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones
What does FSH do?
Testes: Stimulates maturation of sperm in Sertoli cells
Ovaries: Stimulates follicular development and estrogen synthesis
What does LH do?
Testes: Stimulates testosterone synthesis in Leydig cells
Ovaries: Stimulates ovulation, formation of corpus luteum, and estrogen and progesterone synthesis
What does ACTH do?
Stimulates synthesis and secretion of adrenal cortical hormones (cortisol, androgens, aldosterone)
What does MSH do?
Stimulates Melanin synthesis
What does GH do?
Stimulates protein synthesis and overall growth
What does Prolactin do?
Stimulates milk production and secretion in breasts
What does ADH do?
Stimulates water absorption in principal cells and constriction of arterioles
What does Oxytocin do?
Stimulates milk ejection from breasts and uterine contractions
