Dental Caries

A

Periodontal Disease:
-not flossing and brushing
Malocclusion
-sucking thumb >6, not bad unless there’s jaw pain
-trauma: a crack in tooth, not painful, wait until dentist office is open. If painful & there’s a red dot, go to ER right away b/c that’s the pulp showing and it’s highly sensitive and painful
+ if tooth is loose, have them leave it alone! Usually will be back to normal within 3-4 days
+ mid tooth is evolused (hit out) then out in milk (if not milk, spit) and get to the ER! Needs to be put back in within 1 hr to be saved. If not an adult tooth, go to dentist to make sure nothing bad happened to the root

Enuresis

A

Bed wetting/day wetting

Boys>girls

Are parents supportive?

If randomly starts bed wetting after control, look for sighs of abuse

Often resolves itself by 6-8 years of age

Encopresis

A

Voluntary/involuntary passage of feces of normal, near-normal consistency in inappropriate places

Boys>girls

Etiology:

  • constipation; stool that’s leaking around the hrs piece of poop
  • voluntary retention: anal fissures (pain), doesn’t want to go in public
  • involuntary retention: emotional problems, usually a bad relationship with mom

ADHD/ADD

A

Inattention, impulses, hyperactivity

Boys>girls

Always thinking about something else

Treatment: ridilin

  • behavioral therapy (sometimes discipline issues)
  • family involvement, reward system
  • allowing them to type or take oral tests is better for them
  • charts for chores

Dysgraphia: writing, starts at the bottom of the page and work their way up
