Smallpox
- One of the chief results of the Columbian Exchange
- Indian pop experienced catastrophic decline due to western illness, especially this one (due to not having the immunity)
- death of perhaps 80 million people by this illness and others, made it much easier for Europeans to conquer them.

Covenant of Grace
Puritan theology - salvation doesn’t depend on outward behavior, it is faith not works that is the key.
Triangular Trade
trading routes criss-crossing the Atlantic (carrying British goods to Africa and the colonies, colonial products to Europe, and slaves from Africa to the New World)
Navigation Acts
Passed by the English Parliament to control colonial trade and bolster the mercantile system, 1650-1775; enforcement of the acts led to growing resentment by colonies.
Edward Braddock
- British General during the Seven Years War
- led attack against Fort Duquesne but was ambushed and killed along with a ton of his men at the Battle of Monongehela. Huge defeat.
- too confident in his large numbers
Proclamation Line of 1763
The Royal directive issued after the French and Indian war prohibiting settlement, surveys, and land grants west of the Appalachian mountains; caused resentment among the colonists hoping to move west.
Pontiac’s War
- defeat of French (their allies) in Seven Years War and dependence on British led to the Indian uprising
- Ottowa war leader - Pontiac; rebellion also owed to teachings of Neolin, Delaware religious prophet
- Indians of Ohio Valley seized forts, killed hundreds of settlers in 1763, led to Proclamation of 1763
