5.8 Concentration of solutions Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
Concentration
A
The concentration of a solution can be measured in moles per given volume of solution.
For example, if there is a beaker containing 50 dm³ of a substance, the unit of concentration would be mol/dm³.
2
Q
Calculating moles of solute
A
To calculate the moles of solute in a given volume of a known concentration use moles = concentration x volume
Moles / dm³ x dm³
3
Q
Volume
A
A smaller volume or a larger number of moles gives a higher concentration
A larger volume or a smaller number of moles of solute gives a lower concentration
g dm³ -> mol dm³ divide by molar mass in grams
mol dm³ -> g dm³ multiply by molar mass in grams
