What is erythema toxicum neonatorum, transient neonatal pustular melanosis, and milia

A
  1. Erythema toxicum neonatorum: Macules/papules progressing to pustules within 24-48 hours, resolve in 5-7 days
  2. Transient neonatal pustular melanosis: Present at birth, resolves weeks to months
  3. Milia: WHITE papules with retained keratin on cheeks and nose, present at birth and resolve within weeks

  1. Neonatal acne: Appears at 3 weeks of age, disappears at four months
  2. Miliaria: Vesicles, papules, pustules caused by accumulation of sweat undernieth sweat ducts blocked by keratin - common in warm countries, in first week of life
  3. Seborrheic dermatitis: Erythema and greasy scales resolves weeks to months

What is the treatment for

  1. Neonatal acne
  2. Miliaria
  3. Seborrheic keratosis

  1. Neonatal acne: Soap and water, ketoconazole and hydrocortisone may help
  2. Miliaria: Cool environment, loose clothing, cool baths
  3. Seborrheic dermatitis: Emollient with baby shampoo, if it doesn’t work then try ketonazole or selenium shampoo
