What is the difference between positive/negative reinforcement/punishment? Give examples.

A

Positive reinforcement - reinforcing stimulus
e.g. praise/money for doing homework/cleaning

Negative reinforcement - escape from aversive stimulus
e.g. doing dishes to avoid nagging, pressing button to stop alarm

Positive punishment - aversive stimulus
e.g. talking in class and getting told off, or touching a hot stove and feeling pain

Negative punishment - reinforcing stimulus removed
e.h. fighting and being removed from class, talks back and loses a token/star
