Animals and Darwins theory Flashcards
What is natural selection?
The process whereby organisms try to better adapt to their environment. The better adapted organisms tend to survive and produce more offsprings
What is extinction?
It is when a whole species dies out.
What does endangered mean?
It means that a certain species is low in numbers and in danger of becoming extinct.
Why are animals becoming extinct?
- Pesticides
- The queen bee dying
- Bee’s sting people when they are afraid, meaning they die
- Parasites
- Mites
- Lack of bee keepers
- Competition for space
- wasps
An advantage and disadvantage of bee breading
- more bees
- Can save the bees
- Can’t think of disadvantage(8/4/17)
What might cause extinction
- New preditors
- Lack of food
- Lack of space
- Competition
- Environmental changes such as global warming
- diseases
What evidence did Darwin use to back up his evolution theory?
Darwin noticed that different islands in the Galapagos had different types of finches adapted to eating the type of food found on each island
A type of breeding where animals are kept in human-controlled environments
Captive
Protecting a natural environment to ensure habitats are not lost
Conservation
